New Zealand's Pinot Gris Specialists.
Gibson Bridge is a boutique family owned vineyard located in Renwick, the heart of New Zealand's premium white grape growing region - Marlborough. Howard and Julie Simmonds have established, and tend their vineyard on the bank of the fast flowing alpine fed Gibson Creek. Howard planted the block with Pinot Gris as a mainstay but also with tiny quantities of Syrah, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Gewürtztraminer. Gibson Bridge produce small quantities of premium wine with Howard the Viticulturist and David Tyney the Winemaker.
Visit
You will be greeted by Howard & Julie Simmonds, a very friendly, hard working couple, whose passion and hands on work with the wines is evident in the time and energy they have spent refurbishing and developing the Tasting Studio and Gibson Bridge vineyard.
The Tasting Studio was once the old garage/workshop of the original home when the property was in market gardens, but you can't tell that now. The floor is ground polished concrete and the walls and ceilings are coloured charcoal. Candles are delicately placed around and a crystal chandelier creates light that reflects in the mirrors, giving the illusion of a bigger space and an overall look of something clean and bright. Splashed across a painting by Howard in the far corner is their motto "excellence through passion", something both agree is vital in running a business like theirs.
They love to share their vineyard experience with visitors and offer an informative, fun tasting of their many Pinot Gris styles that are available.
