Rockburn Sustainability

Rockburn joined the NZ Sustainable Winegrowing Programme back in 2008, and proud to be one of the early adopters in New Zealand. Rockburn vineyards and winery are all fully accredited and regularly audited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.

At Rockburn we are the guardians, protectors and conservationist of the land, water and surrounding wildlife. We are constantly evolving our sustainable practices to ensure we are doing the best job possible.

On our Parkburn Vineyard nestled into the Pisa Range, alpine water is sparingly used for irrigation. Only taking what we need as it’s captured off the rugged and rock-strewn hills above the vineyard. After vintage we redistribute our grape marc (the stems, skins and seeds leftover after grapes are pressed) to further fertilise and rejuvenate the soil below the vines and surrounding land. While native grasses surrounding the vineyards protect the steep loamy soil banks, giving refuge to native fauna.

At our Rockburn Winery we recycle all our cardboard used onsite, and we only use 100% New Zealand made glass bottles (O-I NZ), that have already been recycled from other glass products. The electricity used at the Rockburn Winery is 100% renewable and sourced from local hydro dams.
