Stonecroft is a very energy efficient operation and the winery design is largely responsible for achieving this. We recently installed solar panels at the winery, which we are hoping will provide for all of our electricity needs. High quality insulation means that heating is only required during the short period while the wines are undergoing malolactic fermentatior. Winter cooling is achieved through natural ventilation. In the summer we use a small chiller unit enabling us to minimise additions of sulphur. Maximising the use of natural lighting reduces the need for electric lighting. We have no air-conditioning or central heating at the cellar door.
